My “grown up” dresser

I just received my beautiful, mirrored, “grown-up” dresser by delivery earlier this week, and I am absolutely elated!  Elated.  I think that word pretty much sums up my feelings about finally getting the dresser I’ve been waiting for 6 months for.  I don’t need to go into why I had to wait so long for it…it’s actually a really crappy story, but it’s in our bedroom almost filled with our clothes and it looks amazing!!

Now all I need to do is paint our bedroom, which, I planned on doing a long time ago.  I mean, it’s not like I didn’t have 6 months to  do this!  And, even though I had no real plans to redecorate our bedroom, getting my shiny, new dresser makes me want to transform it into a real sanctuary!

I’m thinking this post is the beginning of some new design ideas for my masterbedroom.  To be continued…

The list of 12 fruits and veggies you MUST buy organic

I try my best to feed the familia healthy, good tasting and interesting food that doesn’t come out of a box or can whenever possible.  We do most of our shopping in the outer perimeter of the grocery store where all the healthy foods are located.  I support our local Farmer’s Markets from June until October and sneak in fruits and veggies in our family meals…when I get the opportunity to cook that is.  My wonderful mother in law lives with us so she cooks most of our dinners-traditional Puerto Rican almost every day.  There are a lot of rice and beans in my life!  So anyway, I’ve realized that it’s not enough.

Lately, I’ve been hearing about a list, some call, “The Dirty Dozen.”

The FDA recently came out with a listing of the top 12 fruits and veggies that retain the highest levels of pesticides even after washing them.

Here they are:

  • Apples

  • Cherries

  • Grapes, imported

  • Nectarines

  • Peaches

  • Pears

  • Raspberries

  • Strawberries

  • Bell peppers

  • Celery

  • Potatoes

  • Spinach/lettuce

There you go…you have the knowledge…now go do something about it!

Mood Board for a Master Bedroom

My BFF has enlisted my help in decorating the Master Bedroom and eventually, the Guest Bedroom in her new Beach House on the Jersey Shore.  I was so excited and honored to be involved in the design of her new home and I jumped right in.  I started by trying to really understand the design aesthetic she was going for with the room.  She had already painted most of the rooms in the house and this particular room was painted with Glidden, Gentle Tide, which she envisions to be more of a neutral blue color.

It all began when she fell head over heals for Ikea’s Andrea Kakel Duvet that has been discontinued for at least a year.  After a while of  searching, she finally gave up and found a similar one with a more graphic print that she liked almost as much.

We decided on blue and brown for accent colors.  Here is what I came up with…

Is Urban Outfitters growing up?

One of my favorite stores on-line and in person is Urban Outfitters.  UO  is like the cool kid who doesn’t try real hard to be cool and never really pays attention to trends but always just looks good and always has the wittiest comebacks.  Only problem is he (the cool kid) is a little young and sometimes a bit sloppy or stinky or whatever.  Or maybe not?  Maybe,  just maybe Urban Outfitters is growing up.   What do you think?
